Celida B. Miramontes

Celida B. Miramontes is a housing rights attorney at BASTA. She is an experienced civil litigator with ten years of practice in the non-profit sector providing direct legal services in several areas of law, including; housing, family law, immigration, guardianships, probate, elder law and consumer law. Ms. Miramontes also has extensive experience representing low-income tenants in affirmative lawsuits against landlords resulting in settlement agreements for hundreds of thousands of dollars. She was the lead attorney in a lawsuit filed jointly with Western Center on Law and Poverty in federal court against the Housing Authority of the County of Kern for due process violations against Section 8 voucher recipients during termination hearings (i.e. Murphy v. HACK). Ms. Miramontes is committed to fighting for social justice and serving low-income people from diverse backgrounds. Ms. Miramontes earned her Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of California, Irvine (2002) and her Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School (2009). She was admitted to the State Bar of California in 2010. She is able to speak and write fluently in Spanish. Before going into law school , Celida was a teacher at Compton Unified School District (10th grade world history) for 3 years.
