Greg Wesley
Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs
Greg Wesley is the Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs for BASTA. As an attorney, he also represents clients as a housing rights attorney. He believes these two roles complement each other to the benefit of his clients. Greg joined BASTA in 2019 as a natural progression of a diverse career. Greg started his legal career at the Office of the Los Angeles County Public Defender, representing indigent defendants in criminal court. He moved to the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Central District of California, where he did the same for federal indigent defendants in United State District Court. After briefly running his own practice, he relocated to Sacramento to work, as Legislative Director, with a childhood friend, who had been elected to the California State Assembly. In this capacity, Greg developed, drafted and staffed legislation, some of which is law today. It also allowed the opportunity to assist in representing the district he grew up in. Next, Greg joined Brownstein, Hyatt, Farber, Schreck LLC, where he focused on government relations. After returning to Los Angeles, Greg found a home at BASTA, where he is able to put his breadth of experience to good use, representing the policy and legal interests of tenants most in need. Greg is a graduate of UCLA (’95), with a B.A. in Political Science and Southwestern University School of Law (’00) with a J.D. He has been a member of the California State Bar since 2000.
